Action 2: Your spirit animal

Staying in Charge 

Having control and the ability to produce the results we desire is essential in our well-being. It’s in our nature to want to have this type of command and we feed this by making decisions and having power of choice.

Do you feel in charge and in control of yourself?

Do you feel you have power of choice?

Dr Seuss said “You have brains in your head, You have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”

Our behaviour and actions are fuelled by our capability to make decisions. Each of our choices are constantly reinforcing our perception of control even though a lot of our conclusions are influenced by observations, education, social and environmental cues.

Before you begin climbing your mountain to succeed in your rehab, you must believe you are capable of producing your desired result. This directly draws into your why, your story and your goals. Without this belief, your willpower and determination can be swayed easily throughout your voyage.

Do you believe you have the capacity?

Overriding your impulses in order to respond to your stimulus is practicing self-control and self-discipline. There’s extreme power in making a short-term decision that will benefit you in the long-term. To battle with not having short-term satisfaction or gratification so your future self is in a better position is quite challenging.

We are only human, we make mistakes and that’s okay. We learn from this and in doing so we grow, our resilience builds and we progress forward. So, practice making decisions, have power of choice and believe in your self-control.
